XP wont read DVD disks

Hanging issue
Sometimes when you click on outlook or outlook express the egg timer comes up and then nothing.... What is going on? D ccapp is part of Norton AV - uninstall it, see if you can get anywhere. If it works without Norton, try a Google search to see if it it incompatible with some software you have, or contact Norton.

I no longer have windows xp help and support. If I click on the link in the start menu then the egg timer starts for a second, then stops. still nothing happens. I have also lost the ability to use remote assistant and any troubleshooting guides. I tried several restore points but to no evale.

NIS 2004, Windows Update, XP compatibility
The cursor turns to an egg timer and then the app freezes. I can still access other applications on my PC. The only way to exit the applications is by using task manager to 'end I have not re-installed MS Office because it appears to happen with other 'non-MS' applications and I think it may be XP related.

But because we had a problem with XP, which looked like a virus we had to start from scratch, uninstall and re-install everything. Luckily we lost only a very small .... Sharing games in XP
I have 5 computers running on a Lan connected through a netgear router, 2 with xp and the other 3 with win98se. the xp machines seem ok but the win98 machines seem to hang when trying to view the connected computers through network neibourhood. the egg timer comes up and stays there for ages.

Geordie Windows XP
Eventually it will finish booting but no icon will appear for the speaker. However, if I log out and back in more often than not it'll work all OK. It's driving me mad as it seems to sit there with the egg timer for ages. Are there any log files which might point me in the right direction? Thanks Steve.

She has a problem with it as follows: when she switches it on, much of the time (not always), the desktop appears, but the egg timer will not go away so nothing works. The only disk she received with the new PC was a 'Recovery disk'. Should she not have also got the disks for Windows XP, MSWorks etc and other stuff
